How to Search PERIND: Search Fields

To look for specific search fields, click on the arrow in any of the paragraph boxes. A pull-down menu displays the following search fields:

Basic Index – includes Title, Subject and Identifier. It searches all the three fields simultaneously.
 
Title – refers to the Title of articles. In the case of book reviews, it refers to title of the book reviewed. Articles such as “A”, “An” and “The” preceding a title can be left out.
 
Author – refers to the author/s of the articles. In the case of book reviews, it refers to the author/s or editor/s of the book reviewed.
 
Call Number – refers to the call number of the source (i.e. journals, books or conference proceedings in which the articles appear. e.g. DS1 JAS
 
Subject – refers to the terms used to reflect the subject content of the cited articles. Articles indexed by the Medical Library use the Medical Subject Headings (MESH) whereas those indexed by the other three participating libraries use the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH).
 
Source Year – refers to the publication year of the source (i.e. journals, books or conference proceedings) in which the cited articles appear e.g. 2003
 
Source Title – refers to the title of the source (i.e. journals, books or conference proceedings). Please note that the subtitle of most of the journals indexed, have been left out and journals with similar titles are qualified by their publication place in parenthesis for the sake of distinguishing them. e.g. Asian Affairs : an American Review is entered as Asian Affairs (New York) as against Asian Affairs (London).
 
Language – refers to the language in which the articles are written. In the case of book reviews, this refers to the language in which the reviews is written.
 
Document Type – refers to the document type in which the cited items appear. The following is a list of document types used:

• Article
• Book Chapter
• Book Review
• Review Article
• Conference Paper (Published)
• Conference Paper (Unpublished)
• Speech/Lecture
• Interview
• Editorial
• Letter
• Commentary/Response
• Panel Discussion
• Obituary
• Communique
• Case Note
• Legislation Note
• Clinical Case Note

Anywhere – refers to any fields in the database.
