How to Search PERIND: Combine Search Sets
Search results from previous search sets can be combined to refine your search. The search set number and the number of records retrieved for each search set can be viewed by clicking the arrow in the box for Search History.
Use Boolean operators to combine the search sets.
Let us assume that we are looking for citations on “The impact of Asian values or Confucianism in Singapore”.
- Do a first search for Asian values in the basic Index field. This search is indicated as S1 in the search history box.
- Do a second search for Confuci* in the same field to retrieve records with Confucianism or phrases such as Confucian ethics, Confucian values, Confucian teachings, etc. This search is indicated as S2 in the search history box.
- Type “S1 or S2” in the Anywhere field to combine search set 1 and 2. This third search is indicated as S3 in the search history box.
- To refine further your search results, type “S3 and Singapore” in the same field. This fourth search is indicated as S4 in the search history box.
